Default DC to DC reducer question

I received a working 48v to 12 volt 10a reducer From a friend. It has 4 wires, one to battery positive, one to battery neg and two to the light kit. My cart will be sitting for a week or two without use at times. I want to make the reducer completely separate from the rest of the system because I don't want to kill anything else. My newbie question is, can I just put a inline toggle switch from the reducer to the battery positive to shut the reducer off while it's not being used? I have a regular house light switch and a toggle switch that is rated 10a/125v. Will this work?

Better choices would be...drop the neg. battery bank cable off....or just leave the charger plugged in...after 2 weeks a CC Car charger kicks back on by itself. Or don't worry about a couple of weeks because it won't draw that much anyway.

That would look like something Joe the Junkman did.
