Default 98 DS rear axle slipping

I am working on 98 DS 48 volt. The rear acts like it is slipping in forward and reverse. sometimes it will move ok at a slow speed but if you mash the go pedal it stutters and doesn't move. Any idea what has failed? Trying to get an idea where to start instead of ripping it all apart. any exploded diagrams available as well?

Thanks in advanced for your help.

Electric Club Cars are direct drive (no clutch to engage or disengage). Whenever anyone says:

Quote:
stutters and doesn't move
They are describing the shudder of dead batteries (eg. not charged, or batteries too old or damaged to hold a charge). The more you "mash" the pedal; the higher the amperage demand, and the quicker the voltage plummets to the un-usable range. Connect a DVM on the main POS and main NEG posts of the whole battery pack (measure once immediately after charging, then once again after its been sitting off charge for 12 hours, then once while attempting to drive). Report those readings. I suspect those readings will confirm a battery pack issue.

Thanks for the quick replies. I put it on charge. And i will check voltages tomorrow. The batteries are elcheapos and dated 2010 so most likely on their way out.

Batteries for sure.

As a side note:

Local shop here took a cart in where the owner told them that the rearend was bad- yes they changed the rearend, and also told him they changed the batteries because he needed them- lets just say, he had a fit.

Kindof the same deal here. He told me something in the rear let loose. I was about to pull the drums and axles to check into it. But glad ya'll clued me into the batteries. I will be testing them tomorrow morning.
