Default New Batteries Smell

I have a 2011 Club Car Precedent 6 - 8 volts. I just bought new Trojan T-875s and just charged them for the first time and it was charging for 8 hours and the charger still didn't shut off and the batteries smell bad.

Is this normal? Thoughts?

Yes, it can be normal for batteries that have sat on the self for a long time to require 12 hours & more of deep charging. During this time you smell rotten eggs. Let the charger finish.

Smile Re: New Batteries Smell

What is the date code on the batteries? Should be stamped in the flat part of the lead next to the post...E15 or F15 would be fresh...also make sure all the batteries are stamped with the same date code so you don't get a mix of fresh and not so fresh...when batteries are working in series it is important for them to be matched as much as possible...something that most of us overlook. Be sure to read the "sticky" about the break-in procedure for new batteries.

It's normal. Don't worry about it.

I agree, my batteries were the same way, but then after a few charge cycles they were fine.
