Small restoration

Getting ready to take the body off and wrap it, paint the roof and supports, paint the bagwell protector and access cover, install battery hold downs, reglue or replace the guide ring in the motor, and installing dash and a radio with 2 speakers. Anything I need to know as far as taking the wires off the motor? Besides labeling them/taking a pic? I will be removing the batteries (or at least 3 to drill new holes for the studs) at the same time. Do you put it in reverse with the key off and press the go pedal or something like that? My buzzer doesnt work, gunna see what's wrong with it. Wires at the back are connected. Any tips would be appreciated!

Use two wrenches on the motor cables.You don't want the bolt in the motor to turn

How in the world does this steering wheel come off? ! The cover is off, the nut is off, all that's left is to pull off correct? Cuz that hasnt happened yet! Also, the two screws on the kickplate area are stripped, and the two bolts under the bagwell cover are stripped... Once I find a way to remove those, the rear body will come off and I can start doing things

A little PB blaster and a rubber mallet took care of the steering wheel... And a sawzall took care of the stripped bolts. Need to try to get new "nut clip" things for the bolts on the kick panel area but at least the body is off and I can continue. Next ill be drilling holes in the wood under the batteries for the hold downs. I really don't like it being wood but its sturdy enough

Not sure what year - looks like a DS though. There is not supposed to be wood under the batteries. The batteries sit & fit on aluminum angle "rails". That way, you can gently flood them with baking soda & water from time to time to keep them clean.

I'll have to take a peek under there. Maybe the rails rusted out previously

If they have been corroded badly, you can buy aluminum angle that is suitable at many larger hardware stores and you can just pop rivet-in replacements...better than wood.

Thanks for the tip! Ill look into do that. How do the hold downs work then?
