Default Weight on Roof

I realize roof supports aren't designed to carry a lot of weight. That being said, I am wondering if the supports are strong enough to haul a 44 lb. kayak (10' long) from our park model RV to the water front about 1/4 mile away on a level paved private road. Cart is a 2006 Precedent as shown. Another option would be to strap on crossways to the rear seat and be real careful transporting. Final option would be purchasing a small trailer. Thanks for input.

I'd try setting it on there and see how solid it feels. If you avoid bumps it might be fine.

It would easily handle 44 lbs. The storage racks sold for the Precedent weigh more than that alone...

Perfect! Our cottage is 1/4 mile from the launch ramp. I'm going to try to put a rack on the roof for our 12' kayaks. Our son's 8' kayak can sit across the back seats. Cottage opens May 1st!!!

are the supports holding up? i just put a cheap rack on my yamaha g29 roof but i feel like its only a matter of time before my front roof supports either bend or break. trying to either find stronger supports or a way to reinforce current ones.

The best way to reinforce would be with a cross brace. If you attached a diagonal brace from the bottom of the rear support to the top of the front support you should be able to duck under it as you get in. Do it on each side.

Otherwise, ditch the roof rack.

That won’t work on mine as the rear supports are much closer together than the front. I have a few ideas I’m going to try this weekend and see if i can make work. Going to run some 24” braces on the front where the braces curve back and attach to the middle of the front struts. Should stiffen up the front end some.
