Cables Melting after Post Meltdown

Ok guys hopefully someone can help us out. We have a 2004 club car precedent with 4 trojan 12v batteries. They are less than a year old, one of the posts melted off, we assumed it was because of loose contact. This has been repaired using a replacement post. It worked for a few weeks, but now we don't get any power to the motor. Not recommended but we tested power getting to the motor by touching contacts with metal, it sparked. Now on the back side of the motor the contacts going to where ever the pedal control is we touched and the cart moved a little. This leads us to think it is the pedal itself. We went inside for 5 minutes to check videos on how to remove the floor panel. When we got outside one of the cables inside the middle section of the batteries was melting. It looks like an inline fuse. We are not familiar with the cables inside the battery compartment and have no idea why this cable would melt and smoke like that. Could this be because of the post meltdown or is this a separate issue. Any help is greatly appreciated. This could be two issues, the pedal and the cable that melted.

Are you still using the factory 6 gauge wire? And what is the condition of said cables? Typically meltdowns only occur when there is a large enough amount of current flowing that the cables overheat and cannot carry the load. There should not be any load without the cart moving. Use a volt meter and find what is pulling a load and you'll likely find your culprit
