1. disconnect the battery cables negative cable first.
2.using two wrenches to prevent stud from turning, disconnect motor wires(label them first)
3.slightly loosen all lugs on wheels.
4.place jack under transaxle and raise the rear of vehicle, then place jack stands under the frame cross-member between the spring mount and the side stringer, just forward of each rear wheel. then lower the vehicle onto the jack stands.
5.remove both rear wheels.
6.Remove the nut, cup washer, and bushing from the bottom side of shock absorber. Compress the shock absorber (pushing upwards) to move it out of the way.
7.Remove the nuts and bolts mounting the rear leaf springs to the shackles.
8. To gain easier access to the motor, lower the jack, with transaxle,as low as it will go.If more access room is needed, remove the jack completely and let springs rest on the floor.
9.Remove four bolts that mount motor to transaxle.
10. Carefully slide motor away from the transaxle (remember motor is very heavy so expect a drop) until the motor spline disengages the pinion and then remove motor from vehicle.

With the aid of an assistant, lift the rear end up 3 - 4 feet into the air and drop the rear end onto a concrete floor onto the inverted brake drum. The drum is inverted so you don't damage the wheel studs during this process. The motor will fall off as soon as it hits the ground. If it doesn't, try it again. I've never had to drop one more than three times. Don't laugh. Try it and thank me later.

Bob, you wouldn't be dropping the rear end on the center section....it would be stood up on end and dropped on the end of the axle tube which is protected by turning the brake drum around.
