Default Obc replace or bypass

2011 IQ with XCT500 and a D&D 506:2. My OBC seems to be giving me trouble charger will stay on for 12+ hours even after riding for 30 minutes. I have tested each battery with a meter, battery acid tester, and an individual battery tester and all test good. The only time I have been able to get it to shut off is after performing the obc reset procedure and that worked for 2 days but once again the pack is still charging 12 hours later after only 30 minutes of use.

So my thought is an obc problem. I am looking for suggestions as to if I should replace the obc or sell the charger and buy a DPI charger with a microprocessor and bypass the obc?

Thanks!

First off if they are somewhat older batteries they will charge a lot longer (even on a 10 minute ride), mine charges a long while also so don't fear that (2012 batteries). That said If I ever had OBC or charger issues I'd get the DPI and be done with it, keeping your electrical system as simple as possible makes for troubleshooting easier and somewhat more reliable IMO.

Do you still have a single cable from pack negative to controller B-, and that cable goes through the OBC?

Batteries are about 2 months old and I have 2 wires going to B-. I'm really thinking just go with a DPI but if I do would I need to install an obc bypass?

Your problem is the 2 cables.

The reason it works after an OBC reset is that the OBC looses all saved information about how much energy was removed from the battery and does a dV/dT charge.

That algorithm does not use the hall efect sensor in the OBC.

After this initial baseline charge, the OBC measures how much energy was removed from the batteries, and with 2 cables, you are providing wrong data to the OBC.

This was just discussed again in this recent thread:

I just by passed the OBC and bought the DPI charger and I like it. TO error is Human and to really foul things up takes a computer. The charger got really hot the first 12 or so hours till full charge on the batteries but working great now.

If you are still using the stock 6ga cables they are no longer adequate for your setup.

If that single cable on B- is going through the OBC, then it would appear the OBC hall sensor is damaged.

Do you have two cables hooked to the main NEG battery post, one going through the OBC and one going around it to the controller/?
