Question Wiring Voltage Reducer

I am installing a voltage reducer and fuse block on my 48v Club Car. I plan to use 10 AWG wire for the positive and negative wires from the fuse block to the reducer. I am also planning to use 6 AWG welding wire, (just like I use for my batteries), to run to the positive and negative terminals on my reducer. Am I using acceptable wiring in both instances or is it overkill?

14 ga would be plenty for 99% of the time. How big is the reducer?

Smile Re: Wiring Voltage Reducer

Voltage reducers come in various sizes...if it were a 25a then your choice of wires would be good but if it's the typical 10a then the 6ga wire would be way overkill. My 25a unit has four big terminals on it that use bolts to attach the wires through tabs or lugs. If your unit looks like that then you are on the right track.

I ran 10g for my 30 amp reducer, plenty big enough, not necessary going bigger but won't hurt as long as you can make good connections.

I believe the reducer is either 25 or 30 amp. It has the 4 big terminals that use bolts to attach the wires. Thanks for your reply

Just as an example, my 48-12 volt reducer has lights fan,and power plug. Total load on the 12 volt side is 9.5 amps. The load on the battery pack 48 volt side is just a little over 2 amps. Wires to the reducer from battery pack don't have much of a load on them.
