Default 1995 DS Curtis Controller Values: 0-5k or 5k-0?

I am rebuilding a 1995 Club Car DS (48 Volt) and I am having trouble with my Curtis 1204-410 controller.

I have adjusted the variable potentiometer to go from from 0-5k (pedal at rest to fully depressed – as described in the maintenance manual) but when tested, the motor runs faster when the pedal is at rest and runs slower as the pedal is depressed. Therefore I assume that the manual is not correct for my particular controller, or someone at one time has put a different controller on my cart, which is quite possible.

The inverse throttle input to motor speed seems to confer that my controller is set up for 5k-0 resistance instead of the more common 0-5k resistance. Does this sound right to you guys?

Also, my old Curtis controller has no A2 buss bar (unusual setup) therefore I am thinking that before I spend any more time messing around with this old controller, I may be better off just replacing it with a newer, A2 buss bar equipped, 300 amp controller.

If replacement is advised, anyone have a suggestion as to what to purchase?

As this is my first golf cart and I have already purchased new batteries, new 4 gauge cables and a bunch of little replacement parts, I would just like to get this thing up and running without another major expenditure for now. Ultimately I would like to replace the motor with an upgraded unit to gain a cursing speed of around 22 mph with the stock wheels & tires, but that is another story…..

Thank you for your consideration.

1995 CC was the last year 0-5k throttle signal. Sounds like this control is programmed for 5k-0, consequently you have the wrong control in the cart.

Thank you for responding.

I'm sorry, my ignorance, but I thought that newer controllers had just the opposite – 0k at rest to 5k at full throttle.

Good stuff to know, thanks!

Would, what you are calling a var.pot., happen to look like a V-glide?

0-5k until the 15th week of production. Week 16 of 1995 and every Club Car since then have been 5k-0
