Default Resetting OBC, buzzer doesn't sound

Hello,

I'm working on a charging problem in my 09 Precedent with an IQ system and I'm trying to do a reset on the OBC. I've carefully followed the steps outline below but when pressing the throttle down the reverse buzzer doesn't sound at all. I know the buzzer works when using the cart normally. Any ideas and does this mean the OBC isn't resetting?

The problem I'm trying to solve is that I don't believe the batteries are being fully charged. I have three different chargers that I've being testing with and when I plug them into the cart, unless the batteries are really drained, the charger immediately kicks on but not at 15amps, more like 10, and then slowly goes down to 5 and over the course of a few hours goes back to zero and shuts off. It does this with all three chargers.

I tried the resetting as described but the chargers still behave the same way.

Ideas?

Thank you

Resetting the Club Car On board computer - reset the OBC

To reset the OBC the following must be done in this order:

If no Tow/Run Switch then skip that step

• Key Switch to Off
• Forward/Reverse to Neutral
• Tow/Run Switch to Tow
• Disconnect the Battery NEGATIVE (–) wire from the Battery Minus terminal on the battery pack.
• Put the Tow/Run to Run
• Forward/Reverse Switch to Reverse
• Key Switch to On
• Press the throttle pedal down (hold it to the floor)

The reverse buzzer will sound (sometimes) and go off in about 30 seconds.
Leave the cart like that for 5 min to cause the OBC to reset.
After 5 min release the throttle pedal

To reconnect the OBC back into the system:
• Key Switch to Off
• Forward/Reverse Switch to Neutral
• Tow/Run switch to Tow
• Reconnect the Batt – wire to the battery minus
terminal on the battery pack.
• Tow/Run switch to Run
• Key Switch to ON

On newer carts to reset the OBC just disconnect the main neg battery cable, wait about 10 minutes and reconnect. What you are doing is allowing the capacitor to discharge.

Thanks for the response. I've inadvertently done that while servicing the battery cables so I guess I've reset it. Still have that charging issue though. Hmmm.... I was hoping it was the OBC, not sure why the chargers are behaving that way.

Others with more knowledge of the obc will chime in. It could maybe be a bad obc.

Like MrGolf said, the buzzer sound only applies to older carts where the reverse buzzer was not connected to the controller.

The way you know the reset worked (leaving power off more than 10 minutes) is that the OBC will turn the "battery warning light" ON the first time you try to drive the cart following a successful OBC reset.

The charger negative wire goes to the OBC where an SCR controls the charging current before passing the current to the controller B- terminal.

Since multiple chargers are doing the same thing, there is a good chance the SCR inside the OBC is bad.

You can by-pass the SCR by running the negative cable from the back of the charger receptacle directly to pack negative (10awg wire).

You also would need to run the gray "sense" wire from the back of the charger receptacle to pack negative(18awg wire).

If the current goes higher when you plug the charger, then the OBC is definitely limiting the current and it is not just a bad (corroded) connection.

Why do you think that? Everything you described sounds normal. What voltage do you have at the batteries a few hours after you remove the charger. Does the battery light flash once you remove the charger plug? How does it drive?

If it ain't broke don't break it.

If the batteries aren't severely discharged, then the charger will act just as you described. So I agree with jjance, sounds like it's doing what it's supposed to. Let the charger stop, then measure the pack voltage about 12 hours later. It should be 50.8 volts are greater if the pack is in good shape.

Keep in mind that the charger output voltage is considerably higher than a fully charged pack.

When you first plug the DC cord in the cart, the OBC turns the charger ON and allows full current to flow. The current will max out the ammeter on the charger even if the batteries are at full charge.

The current will taper off quickly on a fully charged pack.

Would "newer" carts be those made after about what year? The CC I'm working on is a 2011.

Thanks!

I'm helping a friend with his 96 48v CC and I am running into a slightly different issue. When I plug the charger in it cuts on immediately. As a result I tried to reset the OBC but after following every single step, the reverse buzzer sound will dim slightly but never cut off. By trial and error I found that it will finally cut off after I unhook the main positive wire going to the solenoid. Is the OBC still reseting? What could be making the buzzer stay on after removing the primary negative? Is there something else that would make the charger kick on immediately? I have tested the charger on another golf cart and it acts normal, kicking on after a few seconds. Thanks in advance for any help
