1995 Club Car 48 volt charging issues?
Hello - I have a 1995 club car - 48 volt system with 2 year old batteries. Individual batteries all test out at or above 9 volts and the entire pack tests out at 57.3 volts. I use a lester?? (i think) charger.
Within the last few months it seems that the cart will charge all the way down to about 5 amps (on charger meter) then stop and "hang" at 5 amps. Also the cart will run for a very short time then start to lose power. I'm hoping the problem may be something other than the batteries. Any help would be great! thanks |

Re: 1995 Club Car 48 volt charging issues?
This creation of hard crystals is commonly called permanent or hard "sulfation". When it is present, the battery shows a higher voltage than its true voltage; thus, fooling the voltage regulator or smart charger into thinking that the battery is fully charged. This causes the charger to prematurely lower its output voltage or current, leaving the battery undercharged. If a wet lead-acid battery is not periodically recharged, undercharged or not properly maintained, sulfation will account for approximately 85% of premature battery failures. The longer sulfation occurs, the larger and harder the lead sulfate crystals become.
