Charging Batteries

I have a 96 cc 48V Power Drive. It has been sitting for the last 2 years. I have had the batteries on charge for roughly about 14 hours. 2 days 7 hrs each aprox. The charger hasn't shut off and battery voltage is bout 50.2 volts charging at 7amps. I am not sure if the batteries are original - I doubt it but i can't be certain. My question is what controls the charger or the charging rate at which it charges. Does the OBC sense battery voltage and signal the charger to charge or shut off? Also I would like to load test the batteries but I am not sure what amps should be in the batteries.... anyone have any ideas or answers???

Batteries left for 2 years are damaged. The OBC should have turned off by now? Turn it off let the batts set for 30 minutes to an hour and recheck the voltage.That is true settled voltage....Get a $10 hydrometer and check the specific gravity of all the cells. I doubt these are any good for long.

i,m shgocked the charger even came on........that being said if water is over lead plates and its charging and nothing is getting real hot to the touch you can leave the charger on it will charge up to 16 hours .......now after that time i would take voltage reading from each battery and check each cell with a hydrometer as scotty mentioned if you find your voltage per battery is still at just about 8 volts or lower than don,t waste anymore time and replace them cause your beating a dead horse.........what gives me a little hope is that the charger came on to begin with after that long..............good luck and post your voltage #,s............................................

Thanks guys, I will put the charger back on tomorrow and check on them throughout the day, I will post the #'s once I have had the charger on for awhile and let you know what the readings are.

try and let the charger on untill it shuts off on its own..........................

I will try doing that tomorrow when i get to the shop, thanks Shadowman. Hey another question for you, what would cause the cart to work in forward, and when i switch it over to reverse the solenoid just clicks, cart shutters a bit and doesnt move after about a few secs..

could be a bad F&R switch or dirty contacts a micro going bad.............several things could cause that problem..............................
