Hooking up battery meter
I am trying to hook up a battery meter to my 1983 club car. I don't have any power to my ignition switch. The switch works. The golf cart will not move when the switch is off

Re: Hooking up battery meter
Sounds like your switch is the neg. side of the power. If so you can use it to turn the meter on and off. you will need to run a wire from your pos. to the other side of the meter.

Re: Hooking up battery meter
Like mrgolf said, the 1983 has negative at the key switch (not positive).
The best that You can do with that kind of meter is hook the terminal marked "C" to pack positive as well (or just put a jumper on the back of the meter connecting the +36v to C). The only small issue is that the meter will stay on all the time. |

Re: Hooking up battery meter
Any digital 2-wire voltmeter will work.

Re: Hooking up battery meter
Does it have a 3 digit display or an LED bar graph on the other side?
If it has a 3 digit display, then it is just a voltmeter and You can connect both the "+" and the "C" to pack positive, then just run the "-" to the cold side of the key switch. If it has an LED bar graph, then it is an SOC meter and they require constant connection to the battery pack on the "+" and "-". You then need to put positive power on the "C" terminal to turn it on/off. |

Re: Hooking up battery meter
Also with your meter if you turn it off and on with the neg wire, you will be resetting the meter each time. So in this case you went riding the cart for say 18 holes of golf. It would show you had use maybe two bars of your charge. You get home and turn the key off, then later that day before you charge the batteries you decide to go for a ride. When you turn the key on it would show you had full charge, of course that would be wrong because all you did was reset the meter.
