Okay thanks. But---What kind of connectors should I use to connect 14 gauge or smaller wire to a 10 gauge wire? Twist type or butt connectors? Thought it might be hard to find butt connectors that would be appropriate for 10 gauge wire on one end and something much smaller on the other.

I like to twist them together and then solder.

You can use 0.250 male and female fully insulated disconnects, they come in different crimp wire gauge ranges.
