Question Wire Converter

I purchased a new converter and it has 5 wires. 2 for my 48 volt inout, 2 for 12 volt output, and 1 for switch wire. Couple of questions---I dont really care if the converter is continuously on so can I wire this to the #1 battery positive? Next, some of the wires out of the converter are silver and some are gold. As a stupid question, do the wires that connect to those have to be same color? (I have wire that I could use but it is gold in color). Lastly, is 12 gauge wire heavy enough to connect to the wires coming out of the converter for input and output and use 16 gauge for connector the switch wire?

Electrons are color blind. They don't care what color the wire is.

The largest wire coming out of the converter is 14 gauge. That is the positive input from the batteries. So, can I connect 10 gauge to all the wires even though they are smaller than 10 gauge?

You can go larger w/o any problems. But don't go smaller than 14 gauge. It looks like you got the 10 amp model. What do you plan to connect to it? Is it fused?

I actually have a 30 amp converter and yes it is fused on the hot wire. What kind of connectors should I use to connect 14 gauge or smaller wire to a 10 gauge wire? Twist type or butt connectors? Thought it might be hard to find butt connectors that would be appropriate for 10 gauge wire on one end and something much smaller on the other.

What's the amperage rating of the fuse?

The fuse says 15 and is located on the hot wire coming from the battery. On the unit itself it says Output DC12V 30 Amp.

On the output side use 10 ga as suggested. On the input side, you can go with 14 ga.

I agree with all of the above, I will just add that some DC-DC converter manufactures will sometimes use 14ga on the 30amp 12v side due to the short length of the wire provided. They really should put some information stating that you should not extend that 14ga with additional 14ga.

You should definitely run 10ga for both positive and negative 12v output of the converter to a fuse block or connection point.
