IKE rebuild cost
A friend has acquired an IKE victim. 2007 year model 6 seater(villager 6?) club car that has been submerged. From reading on here i have come to the conclusion that all electrical needs replacing. My question is how much are we going to be into this once its running? It has OBC (SEPEX Motor Controller?). On board IQ Plus charging system. Not sure at this point whether or not batteries are good. I know alot of connections and even a couple of battery terminals have already corroded off. At worst case how much are we looking at to replace ALL electrical including controllers solenoids batteries motors etc...
Also where can we locate a manual and parts for this car? I have a bit of mechanical knowledge and would be willing to tackle project if not to extensive. I know these carts run around the $10,000 mark new. Body and frame is still immaculate. Sorry for the long post just want to include the details to get a straight forward answer. Thanks in advance!! Re: IKE rebuild cost
Welcome to BGW.
Manuals will have to be bought at a dealer. There are not any downloadable manuals for Club Car here. (or anywhere else I know of.) If you buy new factory components such as the controller it could run up to a few thousand real quick. If you buy an aftermarket controller such as an Alltrax it will be cheaper plus the bonus of being an upgrade plus being programable. Get the motor off yesterday and hopefully you can save if but unlikely. There is copper in there. Controller: $600 Alltrax OBC: $200 (depends on where you get it) Motor: $600 D&D Cables: $125 Misc wiring and switches: $100 Batteries: $500-$750 HD Solenoid(s): $100-$150 Theres probly more but thats the bulk of it. The good thing from all of this is you will get a nice upgrade. If you buy stock pieces it's run stock. Don't tell your dealer or whoever ou get parts from it's an IKE cart.....they know you need these parts and will charge a premium for them. It's bad enough to have to fix it much less get taken advantage of. |

Re: IKE rebuild cost
I wouldn't bother with an "IKE" cart or for that matter any cart that has been submerged in saltwater. A working cart can be found used for less than you'll spend on replacing everything elecrical on that cart. but if you really want a shopping list:
I assume the cart is 48v. Batteries: $700-$1000 depending on brand Motor: $200-$500 depending on your desired performance level. New wiring: couple hundred and/or alot of time building your own harness. Controller: $400-$1200 depending on your desired performance level. Solenoid: $50-$200 New 48v charger: $450 If I was rebuilding an IKE cart I would just go back with a series motor with an Alltrax AXE 48XX model controller. I'm not trying to discourage you. Just answering your Q to the best of my knowledge. Hope this helps |

Re: IKE rebuild cost
Yes it is 48 volt. is there any way to simplify the system? I was surprised to see all the computer stuff, although everything is controlled by computers these days. What is the advantage/disadvantage of a computer controlled system, It just doesn't seem necessary but then again i don't know a bunch about theses things. I figure if we can get away with getting it running for under $3000 we will be good. These things are $10,000 brand new so putting 3k into it to have a new and customized cart is worth it in my eyes.
Thanks for the replies! Hopefully with everbody's help we can get this thing goling. |

You can possibly convert it to a series motor/controller. I can't say 100% if a series motor will bolt to that rear differential. If it will that makes it easy. Th cost will be a little cheaper plus open up more choices in motors and controller. You will have to buy another charger too that doesn't rely on the OBC for input. Don't forget the throttle pot.~$100 |

Re: IKE rebuild cost
I have one in my shop that a customer dropped off for "repairs". We have it running after a day and $2,500.00. I didn't say it was done, but we have it running...
Controller / Computer were OK. All the wiring had to be replaced, along with limit switches, V-Glide, DC receptacle, solenoid, key switch, batteries, cables, F/R assembly, motor. Tomorrow we attack the bearings, brakes, hubs and tranny... |

Re: IKE rebuild cost
My point exactly - There is no 'gain' from what I see to these carts. Time will tell, that's all I can say. Once corrosion starts, there is no stopping it, unless you media blast the frame and seal it, somehow. Our IKE repairs are a NO WARRANTY / NO GUARANTEE fix...

Re: IKE rebuild cost
Please do not be discouraged by some of the doom and gloom you are reading.
I have an Ike victim myself that $500 later it now runs...for how long who knows ? ..but it sure was better than paying a premium asked by others. However I do know that a lot of local dealers were very hesitant to offer help simply because they generate profit from sales and service not parts and advice. Have fun with your new project and I assure you that there is a wealth of knowledge to be found here. |

Re: IKE rebuild cost
How about some REAL LIFT examples? Yes, the cart was running, but we don't leave anything to chance. Look at the insides of a "RUNNING" IKE motor.
LIVIN - We all appreciate your input, but how would you feel if someone sold you a running cart with a motor like this? You may have gotten lucky and found a cart with minimal damage, however - Time Will Tell... |
