85 DS jerking forward when stepping on gas pedal
Hello everyone. This is my first post here and I'd like to ask you all a question in regards to my first purchase of a golf cart.
I golf about 160 rounds a year and finally broke down and purchased my buddies 1985 Club Car DS electric cart. When you step on the gas after it's stopping, it kind of jerks forward (if the passenger was drinking coffee, he'd be pretty PO'd at me cuz he'd be wearing it). The same goes in reverse like when I'm backing out of the cart shed at the golf course after being charged over night. I've heard that this might be a selonoid problem, but not I have never even thought about screwing with the wiring (yet) to replace it (if that's what it might be). Does that sound like that could be the problem and if so, how do I go about finding which one to replace? Is it something difficult to change? Would I need a wiring diagram of some sort or just kind of keep track of what I'm unscrewing and remember where it goes when putting a new one in? Thanks again. |

My cart was surging in forward and reverse. It would surge even more under a load.
This was problem was due to a dead battery cell. |

More than likely its solenoid problem. and I`d say 2 of them are gone. I had that problem with one of mine. probably the second 2 from the drivers side. you start out and the next 2 speeds (solenoids) don`t hit then you hit high with a jerk. Uses the same solenoids in reverse.

replace the 2nd one from the left thats 1st speed than see hoew it runs if it still has a slight jerk replace the center one 2nd speed that should cure your problem.............make sure you disconnect main pos and neg battery cables before you start so you don,t smoke anything else.......as for being a hard job its in fact quite easy...................................

Re: 85 DS jerking forward when stepping on gas pedal
Thank you for the replies. Looks like I'll be getting my hands dirty after I purchase some solenoids. Would it perform better if I just replaced all five of them? Or is that not necessary?

Replacing all of them is not necessary and will not make it perform better. With solenoids its either contact or no contact. A solenoid is just an electric switch.
