Solenoid resister question?

I broke the resister that came with sw180 selinoid, is the original stock sufficient? Don't see any numbers on it. Installing this with Dcx 500 amp controller, also what do most of you guys do about a cover for bigger controller ? Fabricate a new one as I suppose it should be covered. Cart is 06 ds iq

When I upgraded to a DCX500 I found that the resistor used with my Curtis controller was 250 ohms. The DCX resistor was 500 ohms. The funny thing is the Curtis called for a 500 ohm resistor but had a factory installed 250 ohms. I'd order a new resistor if I were you. As for the controller cover I'd try mounting a different way until I found a way that the cover would fit. You don't want water getting in. (don't ask me why I know that)

The DCX control does not want to be covered. It has cooling fins it wants air... and a 470Ω resistor to save the controller from takling a hit each time you press the pedal and the solenoid contacts from arching each time you let off the gas.

Thanks, I'll go ahead and get another one. Scotty, on that controller should the iq adapter board be covered on the end of controller to protect it from water splash and mud , do run the cart off-road and some mud . Nothing really serious. Maybe cut the factory cover off and just cover adapter end of controller?

Stuff the adapter full of dielectric grease from both sides before installing it. Do the same for the cart molex connector. You should be good.

I would apply the dielectric grease after I made the connections. Dielectric grease is an insulator.

Thanks , Jance and Scotty. Got a resistor on the way. Also when I took off stock controller the plastic was melted around b+ terminal and sound like a rattle inside. Could this of been robbing the cart of some power? Speed was good but not much torque

A bad connection will cause connections to get hot causing a loss of current flow which reduces power and torque. The connection will eventually fail completely and melt.
