36V motor after 48V conversion..
I know that after doing the 48V conversion on my 2001 DS that the 36V motor will perform much better. My question is would it be beneficial to send my motor to PQ and have it redone by them, or just leave it as is? I don't mind the extra $225.00 if I'll see results, but I don't want to throw money away either. Has anyone done this during their conversion? Thanks

Re: 36V motor after 48V conversion..
I intended on sending mine off for upgrading but couldn't get the armature off so I purchased one outright from them which I haven't powered up as of yet. I did find out however from talking with them on the phone that there were a couple different versions of the GE motor and the one I had would have been better for conversion.
The one I purchased outright they referred to as a thin can and said to be careful not allowing it to overheat at 48v, which is above 200 degrees casing temperature. Unless I misunderstood, they told me at 48v it would be more susceptible to heat than running at 36v. The original motor would have been more heavy duty. The thin can GE is identified by the terminals spaced in groups of two rather than in a row. If this info is not correct, maybe someone with Plumquik can clarify. |

Re: 36V motor after 48V conversion..
The "tin can" is identified by its thin housing, like sheetmetal, not 3/8 thick housing like most all other motors. It has nothing really to do with terminal location.

Re: 36V motor after 48V conversion..
Pq was using the terminal layout as a means to I'd which he motor I had received. The original one on the cart would have been heavier duty. Only point I was trying to make is that the thicker case would have been better than what I ended up with. If it doesn't last, I'll get a heavier duty one. But there have been lots who posted with bandits who were very happy.
