Exclamation New XCT400 IQ installed now battery probs?

hey everyone, hoping someone can verify my thinking.

I bought my cart 1.5 years ago (09 precedent) and always have been suspicious of the batteries which are supposedly 2011s. They always seemed to loose charge quickly and seemed intermittent on their performance, none the less, the place I bought it rechecked then several times and assured me they were all good.

I just installed XCT400IQ controller and man, it really moves now!

Problem I just had was with a short trip in the woods, with fully charged batteries, I went up small hill and stopped to turn around and would not move. Cart just shook , controller flashed error code of low battery volts.

I called for help via my buddy and a trailer and when he came 10 mins later cart moved perfect.
Back to campsite and seemed ok but after .25 mi same thing happened- battery volts jumping from 48 to 25 and seemed to jump all around while throttle depressed and cart trying to move.

Short story made long (sorry) I think the batteries are needing replaced.

Any offer there thoughts? I appreciate it greatly!

(P.S. This forum is awesome!)

" volts jumping from 48 to 25 " ( under load ) = batteries are toast

Yes, the situation you are experiencing is normal for old batteries under increased loads. The problem is not specific to this control.
The new control allows the motor to draw more amperage. if that amperage is not there (low reserves) the cart will fail to perform or go.

When shopping for new batteries remember amp hour capacity means more than price per battery if performance is your goal.

Thanks guys!

Scottyb - thanks for selling me an awesome controller! (Love your pre program by the way)

Any one have any luck with the Duracell batteries from Sams? They sell 12 volt batteries for carts.

I tried a set of the Sam's 8v batteries several years ago. They only lasted 3 yr in my 96 Series CC Cart. Normally I would get 5-6 yr out of Trojans. YMMV

Whatever you do, do not install automotive starting batteries.

LoL - that'd be bad!

These are golf cart specific.

If your cart is 2009, it uses 8v batteries not 12v. Don't buy 12v whether for golf carts or not. They have fewer amps and your new controller wants all the amps it can get!

It's definitely has 4 12v batteries in it now...

It does appear that 6 -8 volt would fit.

What modifications, if any would be needed? The bottom tray looks molded for the 8v configuration or the current 12 v.

If 6 8v would just drop in that'd be great!

Thanks to everyone for their help thus far.
