speed sensor, controller or both?
I have a 2006 Precedent which is having issues with drop out.
I could be driving along fine, and all of a sudden a drop out occurs so hard, it's like I hit the brakes. Sometimes everything works fine, but when it starts failing, it gets worse. Especially if I have more than one person on. Also sometimes, it will go in limp mode when the problem starts occurring. I jumped the two pin connector on the MCOR, and the same problem still occurs. I did the roll away test for the speed sensor and it does not beep in forward but beeps in reverse. So is this a speed sensor only issue, or could the controller also be the culprit? I haven't tried to test the solenoid test yet, but I think that would have to be a load test. The solenoid clicks each time I start so I know it works initially, but I don't know if it drops out under load. Any insight would be appreciated. |

Re: speed sensor, controller or both?
The vehicle should beep no matter which direction you push it. Make sure you're pushing it fast enough to trigger the walkaway braking. If it's not beeping in both directions I would suspect an issue with the speed sensor. It doesn't make sense though why it would matter which direction you push it. The hall effect sensor simply reads pulses from the magnet. It shouldn't matter which direction. I'd try the push test again both ways to make extra sure your diagnosis is accurate.

Re: speed sensor, controller or both?
I tested several times on a steep hill. Rolling down the hill forward, no motor braking and no beeping. In reverse on the same hill, I get the beeping and braking.
Doesn't make sense to me either, that's why I was suspecting the controller. I took off the sensor and visually inspected it and the magnet. Both look fine. |

Re: speed sensor, controller or both?
You can't see a failed sensor by eye. A handheld scanner would be able to tell you for sure what the problem is. I doubt it's a controller issue. I feel pretty confident in saying it's a sensor problem.

Are you getting a beeping or a steady buzzer sound in reverse?

Re: speed sensor, controller or both?
It beeps, not a steady buzz, when rolling backwards down the hill. Nothing when rolling forward. I do believe that I have a bad sensor. I will have to replace it.
However, would a bad sensor cause such a harsh dropout? I'm doubtful, since the cart is hardly rolling before the dropout happens. I was trying to get up the hill tonight and it would drop out every two feet. I had to use the brakes and accelerator together and do a sideways hill climb. Should I be looking at the solenoid as well? |

Did you ever get your problem fixed? I have a very similar problem.

Re: speed sensor, controller or both?
I replaced the speed sensor and the problem went away after a couple of runs.
Since then, I have installed a XTC400 controller from Scotty and have no issues at the moment. |
