Default Green/White Motor cables look bigger than 6 gauge?

I am considering upgrading all of my stock 6 gauge cables to 4 gauge and was inspecting the wiring prior to doing so. I noticed that the stock green and white motor wires appear larger than the stock battery cables even though both are listed as 6 gauge. Are the jackets for the white/green cables simply bigger thus making them look and feel like larger diameter cables?

This is a 2011 Precedent so they are listed as 6 gauge. They just look bigger than that.

Ryan, sometimes they are, depending on the cable type. There are a lot of options out there but one I recommend and its fairly affordable (for me anyway) is your local welding supply shop. I buy all my #2 and #4 cable from a local welding shop. He crimps the ends and shrink wraps all the joints. I just rebuild the battery trays and installed new batteries in a EZ-Slo a few weeks back, the cables were shot in the cart so I upgraded as well.... and it made a huge difference. Many don't understand the power loss from junk cables (because you cant physically see the loss due to resistance) but put new #4 welding cable on your cart and let me know what you experience.

A lot of auto parts stores sell welding cable as well.

Thanks for the information. I am pretty certain I want to go with bigger cable. My only thought was that I didn't want to waste time tearing apart the motor/controller cables if they are already 4 gauge.

It is just weird that they are listed as 6 gauge in the parts manual but definitely look and feel like 4 gauge. Thats why I was wondering. Once I split them open to check, I have to replace them anyway.

On my 2011 Excell cart I recall the same thing with the colored cables between the controller and motor "looking" bigger than the black battery cables.... They were not any bigger under the insulation.

Thank you! And I just confirmed it. I took off the white cable (easiest one to replace) and cut it in half. The jacket is just thicker - 6 gauge resides below!
