Default Re: can i make a resistor coil for an old ds?

So today, i installed a new 2nd speed coil, in place of the first speed coil that I cannot find.

Of course the carts runs, but there are 2 spots when you step on the go pedal, where there is a noticeable delay/ "kick in" that happens.

When you first step on the pedal, the cart starts to go, and there is noticeable 'hitch" that happens, almost like the thing that happens when you need a motor centering kit. But I recently installed a new motor and a centering kit. And before the 1st speed coil broke, the hitch wasn't there.

Then once you get by the hitch, in about a 2-3 seconds, its like something kicks in, and the cart goes faster and steady, I am wondering if this second thing, is the resistor coil. Maybe since this is the wrong coil, maybe it takes a brief time to heat up, then when it does, it kicks in???

Does this make sense to anyone?? I need to get these 2 issues resolved, and without the correct parts it isn't going to be easy.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I'm a "use what you have laying around " guy , if I had some of the same gage wire , I would just drill a hole in a piece of pvc and coil one up ...you could at least do that to "test" with I would think...

It sounds more like the solenoids are not firing in the correct sequence.

A typical "nichrome" wire with 80% Ni, 20% Cr will only increase the resistance by 6% from room temperature to 2000F.

Make sure the Solenoids are clicking in the correct sequence as You press the pedal.

Sergio, there is only one solenoid, this is a 93 resistor cart with vglide.

Sorry, let me re-phrase it, make sure the wires coming from the VGlide are in the correct sequence to each of the coils.

Or are you saying without moving the pedal You are experiencing this increase in speed after 2-3 seconds?

The 2 hitches appear, when stepping on the pedal. I did notice if I start off from a complete stop, and very evenly , slowly, and gradually lower the pedal, then all seems ok. But if I step on the pedal fast or even normal, that's when this stuff happens.

you may want to take out the 2 batteries on the left and take the cover off the vglide , weird things can happen in there if the contacts don't square up right...

I have the vglide lined up perfect. Also this is a new vglide.

Also, this happens in both forward and reverse.

I just removed the coil from the 1st speed position, completely, and test drove. With no coil in that 1st position, I still have the same 2 "hitches"

There is no way that 1st coil could cause a problem, once the Vglide pad moves past it, it is no longer in the circuit.

Make sure the batteries are not dropping under load caused by the faster acceleration.
