Default Re: can i make a resistor coil for an old ds?

ok so far, this car has :

new motor, new trojan batteries 2 months old, new vglide, new solenoid, new 4 gauge wires, new resistor coil mounting board and posts, .

The cart runs fine, very fast, The issues i am having is with these 2 "hitches, jolts, thrusts" whatever it is. It only happens when you step on the go pedal. It will slowly start to take off, then it skips, goes, and then skips again , then levels out fine.

After i drive it around the block, besides this skipping, i notice quite abit of heat by the coils and wires. In the pictures here, you can see the coil mounting board, and a bubble by the 4th/5th speed post. So that is getting very hot at that intersection.

I had the cover taped on the vglide, so i cut the tape to take a picture of the other end of the blue wire. It appears fine at the vglide. All connections are tight and clean. Also in the picture i removed the 1st coil and bypassed that.

I checked everything under the cart, no loose welds or bolts or nuts. All wheel nuts are tight.

you are seeing where i bypassed the 1st resistor. I removed the old #1 coil, and then temporary landed the main white wire onto the next coil so i could drive and test.

Only thing I would do is to hook up volt meter so you can see it while driving and see what the voltage is doing while it "skips"....

Thanks for the suggestion.

I would inspect that green cable and maybe the blue cable on the resistor board side.

If they cannot carry the current, the default path is through all of the resistors, that would slow the cart down and heat all of the coils until the next pad.

If you had the 1st speed by-passed, it would have been less of a slow down before, now you have the 1st speed coil in the series.

Just hearing what your describing sounds like a Vglide problem to me , just because its new (is it aftermarket ?) it still could be warped or misaligned on the lower pads , I would take the rod off and work it by hand and watch it....also , with rod on , make sure it travels all the way to the top at wide open throttle , and all the way down when off...

Today, i replaced the forward reverse switch, So to date i have :

new trojan batteries
new f/r switch new 4 gauge wires
new vglide
new solenoid.

I reinstalled a 2nd speed coil, in place of the first speed coil, which is unavailable.

So i have 2 issues here, 1 issue is heat and other is this hitching/lurching/kicking sensation that happens from dead stop, about 1/4 way down on gp pedal it lunges. So i put a meter on today :

Started with batteries at about 80 % so they were 36.7 volts at rest

From dead stop, step on pedal, it drops to 31.5 - 32 volts, at first.

Then about 1/4 way down on pedal, i get the "hitch", then the volts start climbing as you floor it.

Floored, voltage is between 33.5 volts and 34 volts. It never gets any highr than 34 volts, under load.

What do you think is the problem? On this 36 volt resistor cart, when the pedal is floored, what should the voltage be??
