Default can i make a resistor coil for an old ds?

I haveb an old 36 volt ds resistor cart. I need a new resistor coil for 1st speed.

Apparently they no longer make them, i have been told. I tried to order one from 3 different site sponsors, as well as 2 other companies, and no good!

I think i can still get the other speed coils, but not 1st speed . I would like to just bend one up myself, i'm sure it would be good enough to work.

Has anyone made one? What is the wire material I can use, and where can i get some?

Any help? Anyone tried this?

Thanks

there seems to be different size coils on those , I had 2 88's and one had large coils , one had small ...I think you can still get them though...do you have the really old style with the solenoids and coils or just the coils and one solenoid in front of the batteries?

Edit: heres a post I had a while back with pics of the different size coils...

Wayne,

I see no reason why you couldn't make one. This may help you with the specs...

Get the WD40 and start spraying , those bottom nuts can be stubborn , and the fiber board gets brittle...

Like I said, i tried 3 site sponsors. And 2 non site sponsors. Alot of companies have them on their website, but when you bbuy it, they contact you and say its not available, oem or aftermarket? The after market number is suppose to be 5775.

I believe it is 8 gauge, with 6 turns if i remember correctly. How exact does this have to be? I did find one for the second speed, maybe i will just install a 2nd speed on the 1st speed??

Will it make much difference? This is for an old guys cart that just drives around the gated community??

This is on a 93 ds 36 volt resistor cart with a vglide, that also isn't available.

David, Thanks for the chart. Do you know where i can get a piece of the correct stiff wire to try and bend? Is it that critical that the bends are smooth and the same size?

8 gage with 6 turns , get a piece of pipe and start wrapping ...I don't think it really does matter much if you look at the pics of mine I gave you earlier , they were way different and ran about the same if I remember right...and some I had earlier were almost burnt in half and rusty as hell but still worked until they did finally burn through....but I also had a cart on fire so I may not be the best to follow here....

Welding supply, use proper size tin can or bottle to wrap wire.
