Battery voltage question. Pack vs ind.
Just purchased all new 8v batt from advance. They are cart batteries. One store had 4 on hand so had to get two from another.
Pack voltage will read 50-51 Individual 4 will read 8.5 or so and two will read 7.3 ish. Is it possible that the two are bad or that they were discharged lower than the other four and when put on the charger as a pack, they divide the supplied charge evenly ove the six batteries. So for instance. If 4 started at 8 volts and 2 at 7 and the charger raised the pack volts by 6. Would each battery rise by one volt. |

Re: Battery voltage question. Pack vs ind.
The equalization charge will eventually take care of it as long as the batteries are still in good condition. They've obviously sat on the shelf longer than the rest. When this happens, batteries deteriorate and don't function as well as they once did when they were "fresh". 7.3 is low, but it's not critically low. I think you'll be fine, they just need to charge. Keep an eye on the charger and pay attention to how long it runs before it turns off. The other 4 batteries will suffer somewhat while waiting on the others to catch up, but it shouldn't have any long term effects if it only happens a few times.

Would it be better to take them out and charge separate to prevent any damage to the others. Or simply return them to advance.

70% charge on an 8volt battery is 8.25. Battery Sulfation starts at 70%. So how long have they been sitting at 7.3

They have been sitting at that for some time i would think.
If they are at 7.3 now and have had them on the charger, for a little bit they must have been lower than that. |
