So is a DS really a "one wheel wonder?"

When I bought the 06 CC DS I asked the guy if it would make it up a pretty steep hill from the lake to the house. He said it was a "One wheel wonder."

Been reading thru old posts on this forum (learning) and it appears that what he was telling me was that there is only one drive wheel on these DS carts. Is that true? If so, is that true for the other makes also?

It seems to have enough torque to go up and down my hill, but for a hunting cart (which this one is setup as) wouldn't you want more then one wheel traction?

That's pretty much the case with RWD cars, trucks as well as carts as they all come with a "Limited Slip" rear end.... Sadly the wheel that slips is the wheel that turns.... Very few carts have the much more costly posi trac type rear end...

Technicality, but Golf Carts are "Open Differential".

Posi-trac is Chevy terminology for a type of Limited Slip Differential.

Some site sponsors sell both Limited Slip and Locker type differentials.

Golf cars have open differentials to keep from destroying the turf on the golf course when turning. The wheel with the least resistance is always the one that gets the power. Jack it up in the air and run it (slowly to keep from damaging the motor) and you'll be able to hold either wheel still by hand and the other one will spin when power is applied.

All that being said, I can drive my one wheel wonder cart off road where it will scare the pants off of any sane person

So if my cart is always used off road can I lock the diff? Is it easy to do?

Limited slip carriers are available. Or you could do my favorite, take the original carrier out of it and weld the spider gears to where they can't rotate. The result is a permanently locked rear differential. It's fine as long as you don't drive it on the road.

You won't find a better cart than a Club Car DS... The rear diff isn't the deciding factor....

Welding the spider gears is an old trick. Of course it'd be awful driving it on paved surfaces. The DS is one of the workhorse carts of the industry, it's hard to beat. It's always going to be better than an EZGO in my opinion though
