Factory Style CC DS Headlights
I just installed these “factory style” headlights in my 99 CC DS. What a project that turned out to be!! I settled on the “factory style” look versus the MadJax look because I liked the fit and finish of the final product more. There is much less of a flange or lip around the lamp box that overlaps onto the plastic. I trolled this site and others looking for the various install videos and related posts to easy my installation (never really found one specific to this factory style lamp). My product arrived yesterday complete with instructions and templates to direct the installer with the cut out step.
This is where I went wrong. I simply assumed that the template would match up to the dimensions of this product. It turns out the head lamp template was way off. I would consider myself very mechanically inclined. I’ve built race cars, rebuilt an entire boat, built my own house, etc. The final install took me five hours (with interruptions). Regardless, the actual hole cut out dimensions were about 1 inch off. Because of the extremely tight tolerance required for the tight overlap that I liked so much, I had to measure many times, make small incremental cuts, grinds, and filings to get a perfect fit. Wow, that was stressful. Anyone have a similar experience, or am I just lucky? |

Re: Factory Style CC DS Headlights
It looks good. The only "easy" way to do it is to have an old junk cowl laying around with factory cut holes in it. Chop it apart and use it as a template. I understand that's not readily available for 99% of the people, but that's the easiest way to do it for sure.

I now have a junk cowl laying around. That's after I enlarged the openings for new lights and found afterwards that the cutting needed to be toward the side and not the center causing the lights not to fit flush. I was pondering putting a grill on the cart and ran across a used cowl locally and on the second time around, figured out where the holes needed to be. Anyway Mike, yours turned out good in the end. |
