Default 84 DS won't move HELP

I have a 84 DS club car. After reading other post on here I am still having issues. We jumped the #1 solenoid as I have seen on here. It made the wheels move. So we got other one and replaced. Did not help but we are still able to jump it and make it work. Two days ago we ran a jump wire and got it to go up the street and back. But it sounded like it needed to change gears and couldn't. Also the solenoid was very hot when we got back to the house.. What are we doing wrong ?

Hannah,

It sounds like you may have micro-switch problems. The solenoids are actuated by micro-switches, which are actuated by your gas (go) pedal. Is your solenoid getting hot when jumped; or is it the jumper wire that is getting hot? With the key OFF, when you press on the go pedal, can you hear a series of clicks from the micro-switches?

Thanks. The solenoid is getting hot when we hook the jump wire to one low post and one high post on the solenoid and drive it. If we do not jump it we can not make it go. Yes we hear them clicking. When it is off you can hear all five click.

Hannah,

First click should be actuating the master solenoid (#1). So, when you jump the master solenoid, do you have speed control? In other words, does each additional click give you more speed? If so, you just have a problem with the master solenoid; or are not getting voltage to the coil to actuate the solenoid. The coil voltage comes through the micro-switches to the coil of the solenoid (small wires on solenoid). Are the resistor coils in good condition? A picture of your solenoids and coils would be helpful as well. It is also a possibility that your new solenoid is defective. A jumper across the solenoid is not a good permanent solution, but a diagnostic tool, because if another solenoid was to weld shut, or not open for some reason, you would have a runaway cart. It is basically a "safety" solenoid.
