Default rebuilding 90 electric club car, motor question

Hey all , I am just getting ready to rebuild a 1990 club car 36V. Want to get all new resistors, controler handles, cables ect. big question what am i looking for when it comes to the electric motors? are some better then others , if so then how.Is there any certain motor that would be on my existing cart now? Any ideas or advice is appreciated. ( The current motor runs fine, I just need to know If i can make it quicker )

only way to make it quicker would be to convert to 48 volts and solid state and lose the resistors...

Ok , I was going to ask about the resister coils, I figured there had to be a better way. Whats a solid state controller running price wise now? $500 is ??
