Default New motor getting hot while charging

I have a 98 Club Car DS series 48 volt. I toasted my motor and just installed a new AMD 5.5hp motor that said would work without upgrading anything else ( controller, solenoid, switch, or cables) but would improve performance and reliability. I do plan to put all 4 awg wires in soon. I noticed while charging the motor is getting pretty hot. I do not know if the stock one did as well or if this is normal. Is this normal or will changing to 4 awg cables help. I have a power drive charger, which I believe is stock for this cart.

There should not be any current going to the motor while charging. Something is not right here.

It may be stuck closed, completing circuit to motor.

Are you 100% sure the motor is cool when you begin the charge cycle? Reason I ask is that I thought I had this same problem with my old Harley, and it turned out it was just warm from driving...

That would be indicative of a bad controller

Yes, solenoid stuck closed. power to the motor and controller all the time. I disconnected my negative to the controller until I get a new solenoid.

How warm should motor get while driving. I drive long distance sometimes. I have never felt my motor to see how hot. I just installed a new motor and don't want to burn anything up.
