Question Post lift steering issue

I have an '01 CC DS. I installed a Jake's 6" Double A-arm lift this week. I finished it up this afternoon by getting the alignment completed. As part of the alignment, I attempted to adjust the steering wheel so it would be straight. I'm not sure if this is what caused my issue or not, but now the cart has a very wide turning radius when turning left and a nice, tight turning radius when turning to the right. Additionally, the steering wheel is still crooked.

I could've sworn I came across a thread on this subject a couple weeks ago, but cannot find it.

How do I correct these issues?

Where did you adjust the steering? There is a little tube linkage coming off of the rack- that is where you want to adjust the wheel alignment. Loosen each nut on the end and twist rod by hand to move wheel to desired position. BTW, make sure wheels are straight when you do this.

Yes, that's where I adjusted it. I saw this in a YouTube video by Jake's about installing the lift. I think you just hit the nail on ghe head though. I didn't realize that I had to break loose both of those jam nuts. I thought only one of them moved. I bet I have this fixed in no time now.

Ok, I think I got it pretty close. The steering wheel still isn't perfectly straight, but if I turned the adjustment on the rack any more, it starts getting g dangerously close to running g out of threads. I tried this multiple ways. I tried from a starting point of Zero threads showing, but by the time I got the wheel to where it needed to be, the steering was offset to one side or the other. I also started from the point where the threads were on barely on either end of the tube and turning the tube and working my way inward. This is the only way that I could get the steering to make equal radius turns, as well as having the steering wheel pretty close to straight. The thing that makes me nervous is that it appears that there cannot be more than a couple of threads on the rack side or the tie rod end side that are holding this all together. If those jam nuts back off and the steering comes loose, this could end very badly. Should I out some thread locker on the threads by the jam nuts?

Get the steering right no matter where the steering wheel is , then pop it loose at the knuckle joint and get the wheel where you want it..unless you want to pop the wheel off to center it....mine was froze on there so I did it at the knuckle

Front end alignments can be really tricky, there are several ways to get it right, like Budule mentioned. I think you need to have the tie rod threads equal on each side.

A DS can also skip a tooth on the gear sometimes....

All you have to do is set your camber by using a framing square against the tire. Adjust both sides to be the same by running the heim joints in or out on the lower A-Arms. I usually run about 1/8" of camber with the top of the tire leaning outward. After you've finished that, set the toe to 1/8" Toe-IN by adjusting the rod that attaches the two spindles together. Once your alignment is correct, tighten all hardware. Check turning radius. If it's turning further one direction than the other, adjust the drag link on the end of the rack until you get it the same in both directions. After you're finished, if the steering wheel isn't straight, remove the steering wheel and re-install it in the 12 o clock position with the wheels driving perfectly straight forward and tighten the steering wheel nut.

This us exactly how I did the alignment with the exception of pulling the steering wheel. I'm very pleased with the wheel alignment I've achieved. Could still use a bit of improvement with the steering wheel, though.
