Default Charger Problems

I have a 98 or 99 48V Club
car. I Had to get a new charger as the transformer shorted on the old one.The Amp Meter pins and does not come back . Is this normal and will it come back as the batteries get more of a charge

Welcome to BGW Bill, what is the voltage of the pack before charging?
It is normal for a charger to go to full output for thr first phase of the charging cycles. It will taper off as it finishes the 3 phases of charging.
However ....it can also indicate a problem . Do you have a voltmeter?

The voltage was very low. I had to charge with auto charger. The voltage i s upto 38.4 volts. Even after three hours the needle is still pegged. The man where I bought the charger said I would have to charge the batteries for 12 to 16 hours I don't want to burn up a new charger, so I let it charge for 3 hours and unhook it to let it cool off. If the voltage should be around 50 volts I still have a little ways to go. If gthe needle does not drop down after the voltage reaches approx. 50 volts what kind of charging problem could I have and where could I get some info on it.

You may want to load test these batteries......they are very low. One bad battery will cause the charger to over work .... thus cooking the other good batteries to death!

If your NEW charger is a New Club Car charger, being one that is about half the size of the regular charger, they get really hot while charging normal batteries. They just run HOT.
