Several '06 Club Car Precedent questions
Guys and gals, please bear with me as I'm a noob to carts. I Have a few questions. I started the install of a led headlight/tail light deluxe kit with signals and horn. I was thinking, is it normal for the lights and horn to work when the key is in the off position? That also got me thinking, the reverse buzz sounds as well with the key off while in reverse. Is this normal or is this what is possibly causing my batteries to "gas" all the time?
Another question I had was on the electrical components under the seat. There was so much acid build up around/on it. Inside the find of the (coil?) as well. Is there a way to get all of that cleaned up? I'm on the verge of buying new batteries to get rid of these battery problems. Thanks all and I appreciate those of you who take the time to help me out! It means a great deal to me!! |

Re: Several '06 Club Car Precedent questions
All of the answers crash gave are spot on. New batteries will help reduce acid, as newer batteries are less prone to boil over and thus less opporunity for corrosion is created. While coatings my offer "minimal" protection, corrosion is a lot like water.....if there is so much as a fractional chance of it getting through, it will. In this case, the best defense is a good offense....aka check and clean frequently.

Thanks you tow for the quick answers. I feel better knowing that those things are normal. The acid build up is under the black cover between the two sets of batteries. I'm sure I can't get water on that. I have cleaned the batteries several times with baking soda and water. Also cleaned all corrosion off battery terminals. The batteries gas all the time. Even weeks after use/ charging.

This picture was taken after we already knocked off a lot of the buildup.

Take the batteries out of it and remove the controller. Get a pressure washer and knock all that crap out of there. Put a plastic bag over the 16 pin controller connector to keep water from getting in it. The controller is very sensitive to water. Once it all dries, put it back together.

Re: Several '06 Club Car Precedent questions
I learned a new tip a few years ago. Scalding hot water will melt corrosion and you don't have to worry about baking soda getting into the batteries or the mess it leaves behind. It amazed me, it eats the corrosion up very quickly. I just fill up a milk jug out of the sink after the water gets hot and pour it on there. Do a little scrubbing and rinse.

Re: Several '06 Club Car Precedent questions
The only pro I would say to using baking soda is that it actually neutralizes the battery acid. Also I'm sure you've heard it but coating the battery terminals with petroleum jelly will completely isolate the terminals from being contacted by the gas...It works extremely well so long as you can deal with the goop!
