Pulsing during slow speed movements
My recently purchased, recently refurbed 2013 cart creates minor whiplash when I try to move along the edge of my pond at a speed slow enough to use my propane weed burner. Seller put a lift kit, nice big tires, new batteries, rear seat, etc and has a great reputation. He advised I could bring it in, so I got my trailer ready and as I drove it over to the trailer, it would not pulse. Was hoping it was a 'break-in the new batteries' thing, but after about 20 charges, it did it again last night and I spilled beer and catfish food everywhere. I want to be 'wild' and troubleshoot it myself, but the wife is ready to kill me, as this has become one of her favorite evening activities and the pulsing is about to create chiropractor bills. Any ideas or suggestions on where to start?

Re: Pulsing during slow speed movements
The MCOR (motor controller output regulator) is responsible for providing the motor controller with a signal from the accelerator pedal. When the MCOR gets old and worn out, it send an incorrect signal and develops the tendency to surge or jerk like you are describing. To even further strengthen my theory, 2013 was the year of the infamous MCOR3 throttle device. It failed miserable and was eventually replaced with the MCOR4, which is a direct replacement for the MCOR3. It might be worth your while to take a peek and see which one you have. Pull the floormat up and remove the pedal assembly by taking out the two T30 and two T40 torx bolts. Lift it out and look at the sticker on the side of the MCOR. The MCOR is the black box with the wires plugged into it next to the accelerator pedal. If the sticker says MCOR3, replace it. Even if it's not causing your problem you need to replace it because it soon will cause issues. Let me know what you find. 105116301 is the part number for the MCOR4. All of this information is assuming you have a Club Car Precedent. If you have a DS, let me know and we'll proceed a different way. Post the serial number of the vehicle if you're not sure.

Re: Pulsing during slow speed movements
The controller is an MCOR4.
The serial number on the cart (I guess it is a 2012 model) is PH1236-309805. Thanks for the clear directions on how to get to the MCOR label. |

Re: Pulsing during slow speed movements
Sounds like someone has already replaced the MCOR3 with an MCOR4. It sounds like the MCOR4 has failed. They're not bulletproof, but they're a lot better than the MCOR3.

Re: Pulsing during slow speed movements
Are these expensive enough to push for a warranty replacement from the seller? I bought the refurbed cart just over 60 days ago. I love DIY projects but I feel like I didn't get what I paid for at this point.

That's not a question I can answer. You need to ask your seller that.

Re: Pulsing during slow speed movements
I contacted the shop that sold me the cart. He agreed that the MCOR4 was most likely the culprit and said he would replace it for me. Thanks for helping out in what most likely was just a rookie not knowing.

Re: Pulsing during slow speed movements
I took it to the shop yesterday. In ten minutes, he had the MCOR4 replaced and he adjusted the brake for me. He replaced a lost lug nut, and swapped me a 5 panel wink mirror for the 4 panel mirror I ordered online. He gave me a few pointers about other maintenance. He was a little impressed that I had diagnosed it, so I fessed up and told him where I got the information from.
Took it our for an extended ride last evening with the wife. Smooth as a baby's butt. I might have lost a little top end speed, but that wasn't the goal of the ride anyway. I was grinning ear to ear that it worked so well. Thanks |

Re: Pulsing during slow speed movements
A side note - I still did not know positively how to tell a Club Car DS from a Precedent. My wife pointed at the steering wheel with her beverage and said that it was written right there. I do have a Precedent. Maybe the 4 panel mirror would have fit a DS...

Re: Pulsing during slow speed movements
Glad you got it working. Not sure on the mirror situation. I've never seen a 4 panel mirror. I've always used 5 panel mirrors on every vehicle.
