Problems with solenoid on 36v to 48v conversion?
Hi, I just finished my 36v to 48v conversion on a 88 DS. The problem I'm having is I get nothing when I open the throttle. The solenoid doesn't seem to be working. I have a stock 36v motor, FSIP 500 amp controller, high amp F&R switch, super duty 400 amp solenoid, 6 8v Interstate batteries and 2 gauge wires on everything.
I Have: -49v to and from Key Switch -49v to and from F&R Micro Switch -49v to and from POT Micro Switch @ open throttle -49v to #1 post on controller @ open throttle Where I'm running into a problem(I think, lol) is the power across the large lugs of the solenoid. When throttle is closed the power across studs are 19v when throttle is open the power goes to around 31v. It's my understanding that there may be a small voltage seen across large studs @ closed throttle but @ open it should go to 0v, is this correct? I don't ever here the solenoid click open or closed. I checked my wiring a dozen times before I ever applied power so it is wired just like Carts Unlimited said. BTW the solenoid came from there with new resistor and diode. Does it sound like I have a bad solenoid? Thanks for the help! |

If the solenoid is not clicking you have a problem in the very simple solenoid activation circuit. Is this a conversion of your own making or one of my kits?

Re: Problems with solenoid on 36v to 48v conversion?
This was a project cart I purchased with some parts, to my knowledge it was one of your kits but I didn't have a solenoid so I purchased it from you. The solenoid is wired as follows:
-Positive battery to large post on right -key to large post on right - m- to large post on left -resistor connecting both large post -diode negative to small post on right -diode positive to small post on left -POT micro to positive small post -#1 controller to positive small post Is this correct or do I have something wrong? Thanks |

Otherwise it would be a direct short if the controller turns the PWM on. |

Do you have the negative side of the solenoid small post connected to B-?

No, I don't have any connections to the negative side small post, should I?

Re: Problems with solenoid on 36v to 48v conversion?
The solenoid needs both a positive and a negative to energize the coil.
Make sure the positive activation is on the same small post as the stripped end of the diode. |

Re: Problems with solenoid on 36v to 48v conversion?
Well thanks for the help guys, I somehow over looked that wire. I hooked it up tonight and hit the throttle and "IT WORKS"!!!!! Well at least for the first few times in forward. I put it in reverse and hit the throttle and nothing. I then went back to forward and nothing, back to the drawing board. The solenoid is still working, not sure if it's something in the controller or f&r switch????????
