Default So is it really worth the cost to go fast.

After doing a Google search, I ended up on a cart website with all the go fast goodies for a sparky DS by accident. Let's me see, motor $500, controller $400, and on, and on. I've been reading all of the issues some people have on this forum when they do only partial upgrades to their sparky trying to get a hot rod. The answer seems always to be to put more money into the cart. Something is the bottleneck in the electrical system. All this money, effort, and frustration just to be able to go as fast as a young person on a 10 speed bicycle.

I can see building a sparky cart for torque for hunting where you want stealth and no odor, but why build one for speed? Seems like a lot of money spent for a sub par UTV. Wouldn't you just be better off going with a gasser cart?

Ya' know? that's been an on-going question for years!

And if you really look at it... it really depends on what a particular person wants out of their cart!
I've had a sparky... the best thing about it was getting back to my campsite at 3:00 am without disturbing the other campers!
unfortunately, my wife (now ex) didn't even want to spend money on a new set of batteries after their 6 year life span!
(like I had even the SLIGHTEST chance of making it go faster!)

So I bought a gasser... got a divorce... moved out of the campground, and I've been doing my best to keep up with the big boys ever since!

It's all a personal choice of how much money you should... or can... spend, to fill your "need for speed"!

Only the person who asks the question can answer it. For me the answer has been yes but, need for speed is not what it once was. I value a safe return more than a couple of mph. Granted, you only live once but, I want it to be a long life. I've been tossed out of fast cars, swept away in swift current, held on for 8 seconds, and won by a mila second. 25mph is easily attained and fast enough for me What's your story?

For me, the initial draw was just the shear challenge of it. I didn't know anything more than red is positive and black is not to begin with. It was a quest to see if I could do it as much as it was for speed but success has to be measured. First goal was to get to 30mph. Then to get to 40mph. I personally love my fast PDS cart. It was worth the cost as far as I'm concerned because I learned a ton and enjoyed the process so much that the quest continues on a more serious level now.

Edit: I too an pretty happy with 25mph now but having a cart capable of nearly 20 mph more means that my PDS cart is just loafing along at 25.

Why do people buy motorcycles and then customize the hell out of them? It's a hobby. Just another way to have fun and waste some hard-earned money.

A lot of folks live in communities where there's more carts than cars but they all have to share the road. One guy got on here with the intent of having the baddest cart on the block. Hey, whatever floats your boat.

If you are using your cart for GOLF, he who has the fastest cart never has a bad lie. And you always want to be the first one to the tee when you are playing a scramble when you have a shotgun start.
