Since it is an IQ cart, the controller also turns the reverse buzzer ON when it gets the signal for reverse direction, so unless the buzzer is bad, he would hear it.

The point I tried to make earlier is that if the cart came from a knowledgeable dealer with an IQDM programmer, it is most likely set for speed code=3 and speed calibration=0.

If the cart however came directly from a Golf Club lease or a small dealer without the proper tools or knowledge, it may still be set for speed code=2.

The speed magnet may not have much effect in this case if the controller on speed code=2 also limits the maximum controller output regardless of speed sensor feedback.

Has anyone ever heard of trimming a magnet down to fool the controller. If so how's it done?

If it is an IQ cart it can be done, but high speed magnet is much easier and don't cost that much. I did the one on my regen 2 cart, but they don't make a high speed magnet for them.

Shaving it would seem a bad idea, especially considering IQ magnets are under $30. I have run a cart on speed settings 2,3 and 4 with a magnet and the speeds are not affected by the code number. I have not tried setting 1.

If you read back I have already purchased a speed magnet no change. Just looking for other inexpensive options.

I shaved one side down so it does not come close enough to the sensor to be detached. This was a Regen 2 magnet. Don't know if it will work on an IQ or not. If you are just tinkering, try making it oval shaped. There is a dot on the magnet, I used that as home point, don't have any ideal if that has any effect or not but that's what I did.
