Question on Speed

I have a 2014 CP with a 6" lift, and 23" tires. GPS says I'm doing 21mph

My friend who just bought a 2015 CP, same lift, same size tires is getting about a mile or two per hour faster, but were just about the same

Neither cart has a speed code installed

I thought to get 20+mph you had to have a speed code installed?

What would our speed be, if were both topping out at 22mph with a code 5 ?

I was told, since I have the 2014 and half ( newer style with ERIC charger ) same as his, that the code would take a day or two to hear back from Club Precedent , and the dealer wants about $100 installed

How much speed would we increase by doing this?

Speed code 4 is the highest attainable speed without doing aftermarket modifications (which include speed code 5). The Club Car code 4 will get you 19.6 mph with stock 18" tires, which equates to low 20s with your larger tires. Are you 100% certain that you don't have the code installed already? Your speed says that you do. You will see a sticker under the dash with three codes (A,B,C) if you have code 4.

If your batteries are not the same, the brakes are not adjusted the same, the carts don't weight the same, etc, etc. the the carts may not go the exact same speed, heck even if everything is the same they still may not go the same exact speed, I agree it sounds like they are going about as fast as you can go on stock motor, and controller.

We're doing 21mph, I just find it weird my friend bought a new 2015 left over, and it has the speed code. I bought a 2014 from a dealer, stock, and it has the speed code from what your saying

I have a aftermarket dash, so I can't confirm it, but the speed does

I don't see any reason to goto 5
I'm happy with low 20's , thanks for the help

Keep in mind the controller has no way to limit speed, all it does is limit the motor rpm.

The default speed code 3 is about 15mph on stock sized tires and differential gear ratio.

The actual cart speed can go as high as 17mph when going down hill before the Regen brake fully engages to bring the maximum rpm to below the limit imposed by the speed code 3.

Speed code 5 is the Marketing name of a product which does not work on Excel carts, it has no relationship with Club Car.

Your speed is consistent with Speed Code 3, specially with new tires (full thread depth).

Some dealers put the speed codes for code 4 on the top of the aluminum controller box under the seat. Speed code 4 with larger tires like yours should run 19-22 mph. As to the difference in your cart and your buddies, well there are just small differences in every cart. Something as minor as a slight misalignment could cause one to go faster than the other. Auto makers have been sued over the years for some vehicles not meeting advertised horsepower levels........even though 99% of the cars might meet the number and 1% may miss by 5hp or so. Electrical is also not an exact science. Differences in quality of wire used in your wire harness, differences in lead in the batteries, etc etc could all lead to small differences in performance. (and if one of you weighs more than the other)
