Default Charger problems

I recently bought a used charger that won't shutoff until after 16 hours. My neighbors charger works fine on the cart. Can this be repaired? Returning it is not an option. I'm new to the forum. Any replies are appreciated. Thx.

Have you checked the output of the charger? It could be a relay that needs replaced.

Dude,
The charge meter shows about 15 amps and slowly decreases to less than 5 amps over time. That's the only output I can check. How can I trouble shoot the relay? Thanks.

As long as it's shutting off, you're alright.

the only reason its sutting off is at 16 hours its timing out so if you have a charger thats working right on the cart replace the relay on yours that should solve the problem...........................

Thanks to all. I'll look around for a shop that can fix the relay.

Before you take it to the shop Cartz, it maybe as simple as removing the relay and checking if the contacts are welded together.

You should hear the relay energize (click) a couple of seconds after pluging into the charger receptacle. If not and the charger is charging, the contacts are welded closed.

Sharvis,
I'll check it out. Hopefully I can visually see it and then replace the relay myself. One shop almost had me spending $300 for a new OBC.
Thanks.

As always I recommend if you are going to keep this Cart , Purchase the Club Car
Maint. Service Manual (Manual #1019051-xx).
It would be the best $20-$50 you will spend !
It has the disagrams/drawings of the main cart and its parts, and also the charger along with test and trouble shooting charts.

Just a thought

GM,
After buying this cart for $100 and rebuilding it, I keep asking myself why I haven't bought a manual. They seem pretty basic, until you start to get into the electronics. Fortunately, outside of some worn motor brushes and a new solenoid, I've been lucky.
