Default Club Car won't move, but does start

We have an electric club car which has a pretty rough life here on the farm. We drive it through the creek (not when it's up to the batteries, though), over branches, and through mud.

A few weeks ago, I drove it through some branches, which ripped the wire out of the DIY headlight which the previous owner had installed. We ignored the problem (lots to do on the farm) until I drove over some more branches. All was fine until five minutes later when the club car just stopped moving and wouldn't go again.

When we flip the ignition switch, I can hear the click, and when I press the accelerator, it sounds like something's happening, but the cart won't move. My boyfriend checked under the seat and there was a blown fuse, which he replaced, but it still won't move. Then he rewired the headlight, and now the headlight works but the cart still won't move. We also charged up the batteries, of course, to no avail.

I don't know if it's relevant, but I've been searching the web and it sounds like some other minor things are wrong with the cart. It backs up at full speed rather than half speed and there is no backup buzzer. But it's been doing that as long as we've had it.

We're stuck! Thanks in advance if you can give us any pointers on what to try to fix next. We use it to haul our firewood to the house, and it's getting ready to get cold again....

Welcome to the forum waldeneffect..................

We will be very happy to help but theres a little more information we need in order to help.

What year is the cart?

Check the numbers under the dash where the floor meets the back of the dash and put the numbers on here in your next post.

Have you checked the obvious under the cart to see if there are any wires hanging loose, pulled apart or gouged under the framework?

We're not positive what year our golf cart is --- maybe 1994? 1996? The serial number (is that the one you wanted?) is A 9636-523746.

We did check out the wires. They all seemed to be in order, except for the headlight wire which Mark fixed.

Also, I should have added to my initial post --- we put the cart in neutral and were able to push it fine. So, it's probably not anything stuck in the wheels preventing them from turning.

Thanks!

its a 1996......start with your basics, check all your battery cables and all ther cables like going to the motor the F&R switch, ect. make sure everything is clean and tight ................grab and tug each cable to be certain don,t just look at them......................than you can jack the rear up and jump the large post on the solenoid.....get a peice of 6 gage cable jump large post put key on cart in gear and hit pedal if wheels start spinning than replace solenoid..................check your V-glide make sure you didn,t break and wires coming from or going to it..........by the way is it a resistor cart or controller cart? if its a resistor cart there will be a series of coils behind the batteries................................

Hello ...... judging from the branches incident I would guess you have broken the wires from the key switch to the solenoid or micro switch on the F&R. Crawl under there and see. there is a hot wire going up to the key and then back to the battery compartment. Is that intact.....

Thanks! We'll start checking all of that out tomorrow in the daylight. For now, the only thing I can answer is --- it has a coil behind the batteries so it must be a resistor cart.

Feel free to keep the advice coming! I'll give you all an update tomorrow....

Not a resistor cart for sure, could be a controller cart, I have a 95 & 97 and both have a single resistor.

There's only one coil back there, if that helps.

Mark's been poking at it all day. He jumped the solenoid and nothing happened (though he also said he wasn't positive if he'd done it right.) Measured the voltage on each battery and spanning all the batteries and it was fine.

The thing making noise when we push the accelerator pedal appears to be the motor. Don't know if that helps.... Currently he's taking off the wheels just in case something got stuck there that we couldn't see with them on. Any more ideas?

are you sure its a 36 volt cart? 89 to 03 the resistor cart has a series of coils back there and the controller cart has no coils at all if they are stock..........count the water fill holes in batteries............also where is solenoid located? and by chance does it have 2 solenoids?........................................
