Will the cart function without a pre charge resistor on the solenoid? Are there years where there isn't a pre charge resistor?

Mine is a 99 DS 52nd week cart, no resistor and it says my controller doesn't charge the caps like some. If club car put it on you can bet it needs it. check the service manual and it should say

I'm assuming it's got the series drive system on it. (Lever Operated F&R Switch). If so, the resistor needs to be there. The resistor helps to keep the controller capacitors charged at all times. The prolongs the life of the controller significantly. Without a pre-charge resistor it would run, but every time the solenoid clicks, a sudden rush of power would go into the controller and charge the capacitors quickly and put them at risk of failure. If the vehicle has the Regen 2 drive system on it, a pre-charge resistor is not used on the solenoid at all.

It's a regen. Behaves weirdly. New Mcor4 good controller, batteries, and OBC. But no voltage to the solenoid. Jumping the solenoid makes the motor run. I know the motor was replaced on this cart and based on have all 4 terminals the same a size I belive someone put a series motor in it. I know a regen is supposed to have a shunt wound motor but would a series motor inhibit the solenoid from getting a signal from the controller?

I would get a sepex motor in there ASAP. I don't know the effects of mixing the systems, but I know they are indeed two different systems and need the correct components.

Slow down, having the same size studs does not mean it is a Series motor, lots of Sepex Motors have 5/16" for all studs.

Does Your cart have a Regen 2 system as in the diagram below?

I looked up the motor part number 101854501 and belive it is a regen. The cart was bought from a local repair shop and I am attempting to get it running again. The cart is a mocor4 controll not the model in the diagram you show, also only 1 solenoid. It never moved but just now I had the back cover off with the switch in neutral and heard the solenoid click with the pedal not depressed. So I turned the switch on and put it in forward and it tried to advance some. I repeated and once it shot forward. Put in reverse and it tries to go forward also. Haven't found an exact diagram for this cart but suspect some wiring issues. All harnesses appear untampered with.

The attached diagram should be the correct one for Your cart.

The going forward with the FNR switch in reverse is typically a sign of a burnt controller Field driver, but make sure the wiring is not screwed up before replacing parts.
