99 DS, one speed, All Out!!!!!

Hello,
My 1999 48V DS seems to only have one speed. Fast!!! No mater how gently you apply the gas pedal as soon as the solenoid clicks it lurches forward or reverse dependent on the shift lever position. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Kim

I'm assuming it's got the series drive system on it and not the Regen 2. I've never seen a Regen 2 do this. The series drive system can be identified by the "lever" style F&R switch versus the toggle switch F&R of the Regen 2. If it's a series car, locate the motor controller and you'll see a row of three small wires plugged into it. Red, Green, and Yellow. In that order. Un plug the green and the yellow wires and try to run the car with them unplugged. If it runs, the controller has failed and must be replaced. If it doesn't run with the wires un plugged, get an electrical multimeter set to 20k ohms and insert the leads of the meter into the ends of the two wires that you unplugged. Do not plug them back in. Key ON, switch in Forward, You're looking for 5000 ohms with the pedal up and 0 ohms with the pedal down. If the throttle switch (V-Glide or Pot-Box for 1999) is stuck, you'll see a reading of zero ohms throughout the whole range and it must be replaced with the AM293201 MCOR4 conversion kit. Thanks so much, It is a series cart sorry I failed to mention that, I had a 01 Regen prior to this one. I will troubleshoot it tomorrow and let you know the results. I kinda figured it was the varible resister or the controller. My luck it will be the more expensive part. Thanks, Kim

OK, I just did what Tahoe Dawg recommended and do not like what I see. I removed yellow and green wire, turned key on put it in fwd and cart does not try to move, good so far. Ohmed out yellow to green wire to check resistor with key on and in foward, and that too looks normal, ie. 5700 ohms at idle, and 0 at full throttle. So is my controller toast? If so what controller do I need? Thanks again in advance, Kim

More likely You lost the negative side of the MultiStep Potentiometer (V-Glide), that is the Purple wire that goes from the MultiStep Potentiometer to controller B-.

You can disconnect the 6-pin connector from the MultiStep potentiometer and measure from the Purple wire on the harness to pack positive. You should get +48v.

Sergio brings up a good point. Check to make sure that you have the proper voltage there. If all that checks out good, the controller is toast.

Well just my luck, just measured and I read 50 volts, so I take it the controller is toast or a open on the purple wire between the connector and inside the V-Glide. Can I remove the cover off the V-Glide and inspect? Also just wondering what makes this part so expensive, looks like a V-Glide for a 98-99 is well over $200, and the conversion to the MCOR4 is likewise expensive. But if I need to replace the controller, its even more. One more question, what controller do I need, I see there are many different amperage's, so the higher the amps the more speed?

Measure the resistance between the White/Black and Purple wires at the MultiStep Potentiometer, it should be 5700Ω.

If You get 0L (Open Circuit) instead, then there is an issue inside the MultiStep box.

There are lots of different options as far as controllers are concerned. It's all according as to whether you're wanting to upgrade or not.

OK back again, went out this am and Ohmed the white/black and the purple on the V-Glide, got the 5700 Ohm's as Sergio said. Put all back together drove cart off the ramps and all is fine again. I must have a intermittant problem. All connections look good and clean. Thanks so much for your help, I now know how to troubleshoot it. Kim
