Random Club Car 48V questions

So this afternoon i was at a golf cart store looking at a new roof for my 1997 club car DS series golf cart. I was talking to the guy and we ended up talking about the performance on my cart. I told him that i have a set of duracell sams club batteries that are around a year or so old in it and everything is stock minus the 6in lift and 22in tires. Now, when i told him that my top speed on flat land is only 13-15 MPH he said i have a problem. He said that it could be two things. One being my controller is faulty or two that my batteries are not giving me enough power under a load. I know when i am sitting still my cart has a voltage of 52.7Volts. Which is where it should be. Right? So after he said that he said that i shouldt use the duracells and i should use trojans and my performance will be greatly affected in the positive direction. So the big questions are! Do you think that my batteries could be making my cart not reach the 18-20 MPH he said it should? If so should i change them to Trojans? If not then what should i use? I just really want my cart to be the best it can. Secondly could my controller which is a 225 amp one be faulty that my cart works but doesn't reach this speed? Lastly is that speed the right speed i should be getting because my cart is a 48V with a 6in lift and 22in tires? Thanks for the help y'all!!

The 225a control is too small for peak performance on 22s.
If you can upgrade control and find a 36v motor you will see a performance increase.

Your brakes may be dragging. Put cart in N and push cart, it should roll pretty easy. Also how much air is in the tires? A lot of people have problems with axle twist when they have a lift kit. This pulls the brake cable making brakes drag.

All the above , along with Duracell batteries are not the greatest out there. but along as they are still charging and you are getting descent run time out of them . run them to they are dead (another year) and you have gotten your moneys worth out of them , then go and get Trojans

so your saying i should go down to a 36 volt motor even though i am a 48 volt cart?

Could the brakes hanging up be the case, if when i am trying to pull the brake drums off they are really really hard to take off?

Yeah the duracells do still hold a charge and give me a great run time, the gentleman i was talking to said that the problem with the duracells is that when you add a load onto them they do not hold strongly and you loose a lot of power from that. is that correct?

If you put a 36v motor in a 48v system it will spin 33% faster than originally designed. Which equals an equal amount of speed increase. Just find a stock 36v motor from the same era.

You can put a volt meter on the pack AND go for a ride up hill or take off hard and see how much the pack drops

I noticed that you said that everything is stock except the lift and tires. The stock motor only goes about 12 mph on that cart, I had the same motor in my 03 series DS cart so even with the larger tires I wouldn't think that the motor would be capable of the 18 to 20 range. I run the duracells in my DS and have not had any issues with them they are about 3 years old ( all I can say bout that is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance). I replaced the motor with a plumquick bandit and got about 20 to 22 with stock controller and 10" low pro tires.
