CC DS Resistor Coils

I just acquired a CC DS. This is the model with the Resistor Coils in the back, no solenoids attached to them. I think it is a 94 model but I have to double check this afternoon. It is a 36 vlt system, and with the batteries fully charged, the voltage indicator show 38vlts, the cart goes but not as fast I would think it should. My question is: Is there a way to tell if these coils are bad?

yes .. do a continuity test on each coil
94 ds 36v should run 10~12 mph
they were made for golf course use not speed

Thanks, I will check them out this afternoon. Do I just for continuity or is there a specific resistance for each coil I can check? The speed is almost perfect, I Have three little girls that love to ride on it, so at this speed I feel pretty safe with them on it.

Just a continuity test. At full throttle all the coils are by-passed anyway.

So the continuity test went good. All the coils pasted, so that being known now, since the cart goes when I press the pedal, it is what it is now. It is just a 10mph cart!!

Just to be thorough - You should check to make sure the brakes aren't dragging, the tires are properly inflated, and that none of your "big" wires are warm to the touch after driving a little bit (which indicates degraded cables).

Also make sure that when you make a high speed (eg. floored) run from parked and totally cool (for a couple hundred yards); that NONE of your coil/resistors are hot afterward (don't touch them - because if they are, you'll get a burn). Just hover your hand over them to make sure they are cool (eg. they are all supposed to be bypassed when floored).

If it passes all those little tests...then yes...10mph appears to be it.
