96' series or sepex motor

Looking at the sticky for which motor type I'm more confused. I bought a 96 power drive plus 48. It has the push button F/R not palm handle, no tow button under seat, pig tail on end of motor, but all motor lugs same size, has a black controller made by GE with Club Car name on it. So I have 2 indicators of each motor type. Think it is shunt wound it states on motor 3.2 HP and mechanics manual says shunt wound should be in it. Pretty sure I need controller but can't figure out which one to buy. Cart will run in reverse but not forward. Test # 36 in manual done and results say I need a controller. I have replaced both solenoids, batteries, cables and peddle micro switch.

I think the new xct controller will work on your cart. Check with scottyb I think he sells them.

You have one of the early CC Sepex systems. Better known as the Regen 1 system. The black "T-shaped" controllers are obsolete. The Alltrax XCT will not work with this setup. Your best bet would probably be to convert it to IQ

Conversion to IQ or Series is best. The Regen 1 system was a short lived experiment. After 18 mos of production it was scrapped in favor of Regen 2 which was a transition step towards today's IQ system which has been in production for more than a dozen years.

Thanks for the replies and advice. I appreciate it. I thought that was the case after reading several threads. How hard is the conversion and who all sells the parts needed?

When my Regen 1 eventually fails, I'm planning to upgrade to IQ and XCT400. When that happens, I plan to buy the MCOR4 conversion "kit" and IQ harness from Dave at Revolution (you might have a POT box or Multi-step accelerator now, and Dave will be able to assemble the appropriate pieces for you to convert either). And I'd buy the XCT controller & other misc "bits to convert" from Scotty at carts unlimited - since he has the most experience (by far) with the new XCT.

As to how-hard, if you buy from those folks they can (and will) offer complete "support & advice" during your conversion. Other than paying someone else to do it, I personally think that would be the safest way to proceed with that particular upgrade.

Thanks for the help and advice. I just ordered the parts to do the upgrade and a lift and the springs and the shocks and the tires/wheels. This bargain cart that fell in my lap is not looking like the best bargain anymore but, hopefully, it will fuction and serve the purpose for what I need.

Well, if you do the full-on conversion to IQ/XCT; there won't be many parts in the electric drive system (other than the motor) that won't have been either eliminated or replaced...so it will almost have that "new-cart smell" when finished.

No problem, David. Did you remember to add a run/tow switch...he does have the Regen 1.
