Default how to bypass the charger?

If i want to use a club car powerdrive charger, on a precedent that has the obc bypassed, what exactly do i need to do to the charger to make it work?

Besides buying a whole new charger, ? I was told i can open the charger and splice 2 wires together, and then add a timer to it, ?

Can i use one of those old timers like the old ezgo textron chargers had on them??

I would appreciate the info on how to alter the charger to work?

Thanks

I just mistakenly posted this in the ezgo section, and don't know how to remove that post. Sorry

I was told not to do this!
I did it once while waiting for a new DPI charger. My OBC was bad
I had to keep checking pack voltage
here are the 2 threads i made about this.

to by pass OCB
DO AT YOUR OWN RISK.…do not attempt unless you are familiar with electricity and electronics!
There are two ways to force the charger to turn on regardless of the OBC.

The first method is to disconnect the cart’s gray wire at the fuse near the charger receptacle. Then using a jumper wire, connect the receptacle side of the fused connector to the cart’s negative battery terminal. This will energize the charger’s 48V relay. If the charger doesn’t come on, it could be bad connections, wiring or charger relay.

The second method is to open the charger and remove the 120V wires from the relay and jump these together. This totally bypasses the relay and the OBC wire.

(If charger comes on but the charger ammeter shows 0 amps, check the fuse at the charging receptacle under the clear plastic cover.)

Both of these methods should both be temporary measures for troubleshooting, or as an emergency method of charging the batteries when they have been discharged so far that the OBC will not charge them.

The OBC provides the optimum method of charging the cart’s batteries. If the OBC is bad, it should be replaced

a timer may be used at the AC plug to turn off at 6 hrs or less to prevent over charging

ctd

So if i remove those 2 lower wires on the relay, and attach them to a timer, the charger will work with the timer then?

I want to use this set up as a "jump" charger.

no ... you wire them together and put cover back on (safety)
ac plug into an ac timer

then set up a 6 hour on time

if you need more add a 2 hour setting and turn on when needed

ctd, i see where you are going with this timer.

What i see, that won't work for me, is if left plugged in , and not monitored, it will come on everyday, even if the cart is sitting unused.

What i was trying to accomplish here, is this :

When someone comes to me and needs a jump start on their 48 volt cart, i would like to have a charger i can loan them to take home and plug in their cart, to charge it long enough for their charger to take over. I was thinking i wanted to install something on the charger like a wind up 6 hour timer, so they can't leave the charger on for more than 6 hours.

Plug in wise that will still not work if their cart has an OBC as the charger (-) side is run through the OBC.... If you installed a timer in the charger AND installed a set of pig tails for clipping directly to the batteries that would work.

i thought if you bypass the 120 volt wires on the relay, the charger will come on as soon as it is plugged in the wall outlet, even if the output cord is not hooked up?

Yes the charger will indeed come on but you still need to re-route the negative charge lead directly to the battery... This is the same re-wire that must be done with the 17 AMP NON-OBC DPI Accusence charger...

Which I NOW see the OBC is already bypassed in your first post....
