Default Help me turn stock 2001 CC DS into a hunting monster

I just purchased my first cart to use for hunting. I really didn't know what i was looking for and needed, and went with the first sign of a "Good Deal". Unfortunately, I ended up with a 2001 CC DS with Regen II. I know now the Regen II is not at all what i need for pushing big tires, through the woods. I only have 2500 in the cart, so I am fine with spending some more money to upgrade. Here is what I need from you, I want to turn this sissy cart in to a woods monster. I already have the lift and tires, 22x11, so i just need to get the power train up and going.

How would you upgrade. Lets say budget is 2k, what is the best you could get for 2k, that would give you a good combination of speed and torque to turn 22x11 tires, through the Alabama woods. I wont be going into mud holes, but might find some slippery roads, and some moderately steep hills. Thanks!

I guess go with the xct 500amp controller....i dont have one but read its quite the bad...ss, plus the program doesnt run off of some special cord and windows8 software.
motor some high torque d&d. You wont get the speed but thats not what you want.
then go with some monster 25" tires!
buy some really good batteries and consider 8 6v and try to squish'em in the battery box.
just my opinion and your money

As mentioned above. I have a d&d mortor and 500 amp programmable controller, I went with 8-6v batteries and I can't see squeezing them under the seat, I put the additional two in the bagwell I also bought the biggest 6v available.
However I was not happy with the dekka batteries and they have reached the end of their life and am now upgrading to Lithiums which will shave 500#s off it. I didn't upgrade the solenoid and the original is still doin fine.

Then there is the double gun rack, custom brush guard and roof rack which is great for moving stands and even hunting from.

I've been throwing around different options with him. Everything suggested above is a great idea. Just trying to put packages together at this point..

Yes, David (TahoeDawgZ71) has been a great help. I recommend him to others.

I have a friend who recently bought a golf cart, and the controller went out. He took it to a local shop, and they replaced controller for him, cost him $1800. I told him he was crazy for paying that, and that TahoeDawg could get him a complete upgrade for that kind of money.

DONT BE FOOLED BY LOCAL SHOPS. They are scam artists.

You did the most important thing. That was finding BGW. Tahoe will definitely get you fixed up.

I bought a 36v DS and converted to 48v. It is pretty easy. I don't know about swapping the regen II motor. I got a hold of Scotty B and he was very helpful. His prices were reasonable also. I put an AXE 500 amp controller in and have plenty of power. I still have a stock motor for now.
I'm in lower Alabama and I live in the sticks so I don't have a lot of local Club Car resources. These forums have been a big help.

I recently did something similar. I bought a worn down 1993 Club Car ds, with the V-glide burned out and dead batteries. Here is what i did and what I learned:

(1) You are better off removing all wiring and starting over unless you have some compelling reason to do otherwise.
(2) Get a heavy duty F &R switch, a HD solenoid, either the Alltrax, or the 700AMP FSIP controller, and THEN get a torque motor. Do not keep your stock motor. I tried. It didn't last long. Then I tried a slightly upgraded motor. It worked, but got too hot, so I sold it.
(3) Call Plumquick and ask for their torque motor. It's not listed on the website. With 22" tires expect speeds between 16-19 mph, plenty fast enough for a hunting cart. It will climb hills, carry people, and more importantly not overheat. I am sure D & D makes a good motor too.
(4) 10" rims help some with stability. Wider tires seem to help. Some 10" wide tires are not so. Your 22" tires are plenty big enough for 99% of what we do in Alabama.
(5) you didn't mention whether you have heavy duty leaf springs, but if you don't, get those.

Assuming you do not need batteries, here are your costs:

forward and reverse switch, controller, solenoid - 750-850
New Motor - 600-650
Wiring, including 2g battery cables $250-275.

1750 is in your budget, so away you go. Then save up your pennies a little because eventually you will need some new brakes.

Finally, I did 8 six volt batteries. If I had it to do all over again, I may not. With a rear seat, two bagwell batteries AND a torque motor, you have a lot of weight in the back, which seems to make getting stuck much easier than before I put the two back there.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I've made just about all the mistakes you can make.
