Club Car quit on me! 1999 Club Car DS 48V
A couple of weeks ago about halfway through a round of golf, got into cart, pressed pedal, got nothing. Towed it in and plugged it in. It charges OK. Its been too cold to get out and work on it, but I'm thinking about it now, and thought I would ask.
All I hear when I press pedal, I think is the mechanics of the pedal. What is the process for testing this and figuring out whats wrong? 1999 Club Car DS 48v. Plum quick purple motor. 4 gauge wires. Stock height and tires. Heavy duty FNR lever under seat. Batteries are Trojans, couple of years old. Checked water about same time. Thanks! |

Cold weather is hard on batteries, after the charger shuts off see if it will move and report back if it doesn't.

One simple check is the connections of the 4ga wires at the f&r.

Does your solenoid click when you press the pedal?

Thanks Yamahaman, Epb, and carolinasled for the suggestions.
Going out in next couple of days to do some preliminary troubleshooting. Going to check it after a good charge, check FNR connections, and listen for solenoid. Is it OK if I jack the rear and jump the big bolts on the solenoid with a car jumper cable? Can I do this through the panel in the back? Will this tell me anything? |

The batteries just could have died on you...we'll see what happens after the charge.
Shorting the solenoid and push pedal and it works means to me the MCOR. It could be the m/s in the MCOR that is not working to tell the solenoid to close. Suggestions I have read on here is use a paper clip in the two pin connector of the MCOR and test cart for movement. The check I posted earlier really happened.....those bigger wires connected to the F&R by a dinky screw work loose. |

All testing should be done with a healthy pack. Since you recently charged and let the cart sit 12-24 hrs. the pack should read 50.9v at a stand still. With the meter on the pack mains, press the gas to go.
If the voltage drops significantly and the cart does not go you may have 1 or more bad batteries. Does the solenoid click when you try to go? If no you may have a problem in the solenoid activation circuit. Check the F&R and V-glide micro switches for continuity. |

I think its a bad solenoid. Did the above checks. Finally, jacked rear up and jumpered the big posts on solenoid. Hit pedal and IT GOES! Also have 51+ volts on small posts with pedal pressed.
Am I thinking right? Man that's a cramped access panel. |

Re: Club Car quit on me! 1999 Club Car DS 48V
You could be on the right track, but maybe not. Just because you bypass the solenoid and it runs does not automatically mean the solenoid is bad. If for some reason, the solenoid is not getting power to the two small posts when you push the pedal down then there's nothing ever telling the solenoid to click. It may be in the control circuit rather than the solenoid itself. If you have a multi-meter, put your probes on the two small posts of the solenoid when you try to go and see what kind of voltage you're getting. One lead of the meter on each of the posts.

Thanks TahoDawgZ71, I mentioned that I got 51+ volts on the small posts.
So if I get the voltage on the small posts, and I jumped the big post and it runs, what does this mean? |
